Year 1 Class 1TD I This term, Class 1TD have been looking at stories by Eric Carle, including the Hungry Caterpillar, The Busy Spider and The Bad Tempered Ladybird. We have sequenced the stories, looked at days of the week, time, ordering numbers to 10 and beyond, pattern and symmetry. We have made spider diaries, looked at writing sentences, identified the difference between living and non living things and looked at lifecycles. We have been on minibeast hunts, observed giant land snails and other minibeasts that have come into the classroom! We have enjoyed finding interesting facts from non fiction books about insects, arachnids and gastropods. We will be soon be looking at Elmer and investigating colour. We will also read the story of Oliver’s Vegetables and identify healthy and unhealthy foods, look at the food pyramid, have a visit from the school nurse, who will talk to us about keeping healthy.
Class MC
Our topic for this Term has been ‘Native American Indians’. We have been looking into their culture and exploring where and how they lived. We will have a go at building our own totem poles and tepees as well as trying some of the food they ate. We have had great fun learning all about dream catchers and making some of our own. We were inspired to discover more about rainbows after seeing a beautiful rainbow one morning. We learnt how they are made and the different types you can see. We carried out colour changing experiments, made a rainbow using different coloured fruits, created rainbows using prisms and even made different coloured ice-creams using fruit.
