Art

Art Club is being run on a Tuesday by Miss Farrant and Miss Northcott. This term we are looking at the Olympics and creating our own figures of athletes competing in different Olympic events. The children started off by thinking about the different sports in the Olympics and then practiced getting into static positions whilst their partners drew them. The next stage was for the children to create these positions using wire, this looked easy but turned out to be very difficult as the wire was stiff and hard to manipulate. Once the wire models were complete the children had to use newspaper and masking tape to create the different shapes of the body. The next stage was to cover the figure in mod rock so that it was ready to paint.

The children are all really enjoying creating their models and art club has proved to be very popular this term. Come back soon to see some images of the final Olympic figures and to find out what we will be creating next term.

Year 2 - Class SN

Throughout the year the children in year 2 will be looking at different topics which will include The Rainforest, Historical Figures and Space. These topics will allow the children to explore events in the past, look at other cultures, learn about how people can influence the way in which we live and discover new facts about our world.

This year the year 2 children will be joining up with the year 1 children within P.E to learn new skills and to improve existing ones. They will be looking at a range of different games and learning the rules that go along with them. Some of the sports they will be playing will be netball, basketball, rounders, hockey, football and tag rugby. This P.E seesion will take place every Tuesday afternoon.

The KS1 Christmas Nativity is an event which the children look forward to every year and as the eldest children in KS1 the year 2’s will have to lead the way and help put on a show to remember. It will not be long now until the practices begin, the singing starts and we get in the Christmas spirit.

The school library offers a wide selection of books written by an array of authors and in year 2 the children get the opportunity to visit the library every week to select books to take home. The children also get to join the school’s Bookworm Scheme, if they choose which encourages them to read a wider variety of books and awards them with certificates to support their achievements.

This year there will also be a variety of other opportunities for the children including after school clubs, sports day, sessions in the art studio and helping plant and grow a range of plants and vegetables in our new allotment.
