Merry Christmas Everyone!

This Christmas we have been in the recording studio recording a Christmas single. The single included children from both Year 5 and 6. The children recorded two popular Christmas songs Merry Christmas Everyone and Winter Wonderland.

The entire CD was manufactured on site by 5JP. The children were involved in every step of the process. They helped record the CD, designed the cover, printed the CDs, burnt the CDs and put them all together.

The children, in most cases, were recorded four at a time each with their own microphone and set of headphones. However, some children were selected to record solo parts.

Everybody involved in the CD worked really hard. Some children happily gave up lunches while others were keen to get involved with the technical side of things.

As you can see they have managed to produce an impressive end product. Well done everyone involved.

You can now download and listen to the BCPS Christmas single. Orders are still being taken if you would like a copy on CD.

On the 27th June a group of year six children accompanied Chris Pope (the Samba and drum teacher at school) and Mrs Pearce to the Remix Music Festival 2007, held at Westpoint.  The children watched music workshops and spectacular performances held throughout the day by musicians from around the world.

At midday in Zone 3, The Broadclyst Samba Band performed their Samba routine in front of a packed tent of other school groups and visitors, they were also filmed by the BBC. After their lively musical and dance routine  they received an enormous amount of applause and praise, more importantly you could see how much they had enjoyed doing it!

Everyone joined together in the afternoon to sing as one, with a large orchestral accompaniment. We really did almost raise the roof, the atmosphere was electrical and we all came away buzzing. To round the day off the children took part in a folkdance workshop, where they were able to show off there dancing skills that none of them knew they had before.

It was a great day and something for our future Samba groups to look forward too.

Broadclyst School – Gospel Music Fun Day 28th June 2005

The morning started with a session for the children in Key Stage 1 with an introduction and history of the London Community Gospel Choir by Rev. Bazil Meade. The children then listened to a performance by the choir members. The Choir then taught the children songs as a whole group in hall.

The children in Key Stage 2 has a similar introduction and performance but were lucky enough to witness many of the school staff sing Swing Low Sweet Chariot. If that wasn’t difficult enough, they were trying to do the actions at the same time. The children thought this was hilarious.

After lunch, an opportunity for the children to collect the choir members’ autographs, each class was taught two or three songs with harmonies, choreography and worked with lead vocalists; Ezra & Ayo, Wendi & Afi, Bazil & Jenny, Ethline & Geo or Sharleen & Yomi.

The best songs were selected to perform to the whole school in a performance at 2.15pm. Each class performed a different song and we all then enjoyed a final performance by the choir.

The next day the London Community Gospel Choir was performing at Westpoint Arena, as were the Broadclyst Primary School Samba Band.

Some of the children wrote letters to the choir to thank them for a wonderful day. A selection of the children’s letters were posted on the choir’s website. www.lcgc.org.uk

SAMBA DRUMS

CD Album

Back in 1999 we released our first music album on CD.

Children from years five and six at the school, as well as previous students from former years spent many evenings in a classroom recording their chosen songs.

This year with the opening of the new buildings we were able to transform one of the older classrooms into a dedicated music room and recording studio. Now we are looking forward to producing our second CD with more of the students and maybe even some of the staff!

Now we are able to use the new studio to record songs using high quality music equipment with the help of some very gifted members of staff who joined the school in September.

Promotional DVD

Our first recording in the new studio has been a previous student returning after featuring on our first CD to sing "Greatest Love Of All" as sung by Whitney Houston. After the recording was over, she did some filming around the school and helped to produce a 4 minute music video.

Year 6 have also taken part in an "Eggy Challenge" requiring them to design and build a self-propelled car that will take an egg across the hall as far as possible. A DVD has been made of the event which has proved to be very popular with students, staff and visitors.
