With English rugby being perhaps the one sport in which the nation can currently claim to be true World contenders, what better game is there to get involved in?

Within the school club there is every possibility that we have got the next Jason Robinson or Johnny Wilkinson, as it is surely at such a young age that these guys initially held a rugby ball and learnt how to run like a

whirlwind or kick like a canon shot! Already we have our very own “Pocket Rocket” who is proving to be an even more elusive and slippery character than Johnny Wilkinson could have ever hoped to be!

There are a number of reasons which make Tag rugby a far more enjoyable game than the game of Rugby Union that you might have seen:

1. It is a far quicker game with loads more points being scored!
2. All ages, abilities and sexes can play against one another on a level playing field!
(Certainly when we play away anyway!)
3. It is a non-contact sport so there is no chance of blood noses and black eyes!
(Well, minimal chance!)
4. You are guaranteed to get a chance to run with the ball and play an important role
in your team.

In order to develop these skills we have a variety of fun and dynamic activities that we regularly participate in at the after school tag rugby club. These activities will help you to develop a variety of rugby related skills such as:

1. running with the ball
2. passing and catching the ball
3. evading your opposition
4. attacking and defending principles
5. working effectively as a team

We play a number of different games each week at the club ranging from simple ball handling drills and skills practice in Auckland grids, right through to all out warfare in games such as British Bulldog.
