Year 3

Class SN

Class 3SN have already been working hard this term to try and make our classroom look as colourful as possible, one way in which we did this was to cover our ceiling in trees and falling leaves.

Our topic this term is disasters and we have been looking at the sinking of the Titanic.  So far we have written our own diary entries, conducted interviews, drawn portholes and also come up with as many facts about the Titanic as we could.  We are now going to be using the computers and a program called Publisher to each make a brochure advertising a trip on board the Titanic.

Some of the other things our class have been doing include firework pictures, using black card and chalk pastels, maths patterns created with dots and lines and also debate writing discussing whether we think the summer holidays should be shorter or longer.  What do you think?

Class CS

This term we have been looking at 'Weather around the World'. We have been learning all about weather and the effects it has on our daily lives! We have been looking at daily weather forecasts and keeping diaries of how the changing weather affects our daily routines. We have also been working hard and making our own devices to measure weather and keeping daily records. We have made wind vanes and learned how to read a compass and have been learning about capacity when making our rain gauges.

As part of our 'Weather' topic we have been been enjoying all the changes that Autumn brings. We went on a 'Sensory walk' through the playing fields and thought about all the different sounds and smells, and looked at all different coloured leaves we could find. We have been  doing leaf sketches and also been doing seasonal landscape drawings.

We have started looking at natural disasters around the world. So far we have been learning about how tornadoes are created and the extensive damages they can cause. We have been making our own tornadoes in a jar using vinegar and washing up liquid! We are looking forward to learning about volcanoes, floods and droughts!

Some of the other things our class have been doing include writing to our pen pals at Newtown School in Portsmouth,  maths patterns created with dots and lines, chalk pastel firework pictures and writing letters to Wally, our classroom character who is travelling in Australia. We have also been doing gymnastics every week and have learned how to do forward rolls, teddy bear rolls, headstands and handstands!
